An erect, glabrous, little-branched perennial with grooved, glabrous stems 23-38 cm high, growing from a creeping root-stock.

Flowers: Flower-heads 50-60 mm diam., very few, on long stalks; involucral bracts lanceolate, glabrous, with a black margin; receptacle flat, naked; ray florets with ligule 16 mm long, sterile, spreading, white; disc florets 4 mm long, tubular, yellow.
